Strawberry Field Exhibition

DJW worked closely with the exhibition designer Cubit 3D to deliver the AV hardware design, installation and software production of the digital interactive element and the finale show for the Strawberry Field Exhibition, telling the story of the history of the site and it’s connection to John Lennon and the Beatles song Strawberry Fields Forever.

The project featured digital signage systems throughout the pre-exhibition areas, such as the retail and café areas. Within the exhibition there are a total 13 projection systems, 14 LCD screens, background ambient audio all of which were linked to a Digital Tour Guide.

Software production involved ambient audio reflecting the original garden and bandstand, so featured a mix of bird song, children playing and Salvation Army bands playing in the distance.

One of the more complex elements of the production was a 5 projector finale show synchronised to the original song, using a mix of archive images of John Lennon and the manor house.

A major feature of the original song was the use of a Mellotron, which was effectively a keyboard tape sampler. DJW created a full size, projection table interactive allowing visitors to play this unique keyboard instrument. The visitor can either follow a tutorial learning how to play the introduction to the song or if they are more confident have free rein to play whichever instrument or tune they wish to.
